Triumph at the Australian Quarter Horse Nationals: Zorro and Rebel Shine After 4 Years Off

Wow we actually made it, Zorro, Rebel Dixie and I had a last minute preparation for competing at the Australian Quarter Horse Association National Championships.

Happy to say that Zorro, aka “Good Boy” won Champion in the Ranch Reining and very well placed in the rest of his classes bar one also won him Champion Over All High Point Ranch Versatility Horse.

His ability to perform on point with precision beautifully flowing working speed and accuracy with little or no resistance (bar one) he’s a pleasure to be with. And sometimes our “tricks” come in handy.

Rebel, aka “what’s in it for me” had a solid lead up to the show to a point I thought he would kick Zorro’s butt.. with some cracking smooth transitions and beautiful strong working strides with true real ranch horse forward movement, flow and responsivenes ( since he has been a real ranch horse for many years) but unfortunately he wasn’t quite comfortable getting out and about to the big smoke this year. He stayed as support and stable buddy for Zorro, So he will from now on be working from home, he’s decided. He did think 2018 was my last big ask of him..

Extremely proud of how both of my horses were able to get back to their champion selves after 4 years off.

So now Zorro can add to his list of Ranch titles and Rebel can remember his last effort getting in the actual pen in 2018 as qld state Ranch Riding Champion as his retirement on a high.

The whole thing was a huge deal just to make it.. the relief when I got the AELEC gate was enough to bring tears to my eyes.

Not being able to get to competitions regularly like we used to thanks to having my life float upside down and starting from scratch, we just load up and go with minimal prep makes the results that much sweeter.
